‘The Good Place’ Season 2 Sneak Peek: Michael Gets Philosophy Overdose
Michael is having a hard time learning how to be a better person in this week’s episode of “The Good Place.”
In a sneak peek from Season 2, episode 5 of the NBC series, Eleanor (Kristen Bell) and Chidi (William Jackson Harper) bring a traumatized Michael (Ted Danson) to Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Jason Mendoza) for help.
“Red alert! Red alert! We need help,” Eleanor shouts as they enter the well-decorated venue of Tahani’s upcoming party.
Upon seeing Michael’s disturbing look, Jason thinks that the architect has snorted some sort of a drug. “Mike, listen to me. You have not thing to worry about. You still have around 70 percent of your left brain,” says Jason.
As expected, Eleanor is quick to correct the former EDM DJ. “This is more like a philosophy overdose,” Eleanor explains. “Basically, Michael just smoked a big bowl of ennui, and now he’s having an existential crisis. So we need to cheer him up.”
Chidi then tries to turn Michael’s attention to how beautiful the party venue is. “Look at how pretty the restaurant is,” the ethics professor tells Michael. “Did Tahani do a good job?”
Unfortunately, Chidi’s attempt doesn’t work, as the immortal being continues to spit out some existential remarks: “Parties are mere distraction from the relentlessness of entropy. We’re all just corpses who haven’t yet begun to decay.”
In Season 2, episode 4, Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani and Jason all agreed to help Michael cover his screw-ups from his boss Shawn (Marc Evan Jackson) by going behind Vicky’s (Tiya Sircar) back. But in return for the humans’ help, Michael agreed to take Chidi’s ethics class with them.
Another sneak peek from the next episode shows how much uninterested Michael is in becoming a better person. “Well, I’ve read everything on your syllabus and … it’s all stupid garbage,” Michael tells Chidi. But since he’s still honoring their deal, Michael is left with no choice but to attend the class.
Will the humans figure out a way to bring Michael back to his old self before Vicky notices something off with him? Or will Michael’s condition lead Vicky to finding out his secret alliance with the humans?
“The Good Place” Season 2, episode 5, titled “Existential Crisis,” airs tonight at 8:30 p.m. on NBC.
