‘The Good Place’ Season 2 Spoilers: Episode 6 Synopsis, Sneak Peek Released
Chidi teaches a classic thought experiment in ethics in this week’s episode of “The Good Place.”
According to the synopsis for Season 2, episode 6 of the NBC series, Chidi (William Jackson Harper) tackles a famous ethical dilemma during his class with the rest of Team Cockroach. Unfortunately, the topic of their discussion leads to a conflict with Michael (Ted Danson).
In a sneak peek from the episode, Chidi introduces Michael, Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) to the popular thought experiment called the Trolley Problem.
“So you are driving a trolley when the brakes fail, and on the track ahead of you are five workmen that you will run over. Now, you can steer to another track but on that track is one person you would kill instead of the five. What do you do?” Chidi asks his students.
“Do we know anything about the people? Like, is one of them an ex-boyfriend?” asks Eleanor.
When Chidi makes it clear that they don’t know any of workers, Eleanor says that she’ll switch track and kill one person instead of five.
While Eleanor has made her mind up so quickly, Chidi points out that there are other versions of the Trolley Problem. “Like what if you knew one of the people? Does that change the equation?” Chidi says. “Or what if you’re not the driver?”
Michael is noticeably quiet during the class, so Chidi calls his attention and asks what he thinks about the Trolley Problem. “Obviously, the dilemma is clear: How do you kill all six people? So I would dangle a sharp blade up the window to slice the neck of the guy in the other track as we smoosh the five main guys,” Michael says, shocking his classmates and their teacher.
Elsewhere in the upcoming episode, Tahani harbors a secret and confides in Janet (D’Arcy Carden). Is Tahani pregnant? As fans can remember, Tahani ends up sleeping with Jason at the end of Season 2, episode 5.
“The Good Place” Season 2, episode 6, titled “The Trolley Problem,” airs on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 8:30 p.m. EDT on NBC. Watch the sneak peek below:
