Google In 2017: 4 Products Expected From The Company In The Coming Year

Google has had a good run in 2016 as far as its hardware offerings are concerned. The company launched a range of hardware in October including the Daydream View VR headset, Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, Google Home Speaker, Chromecast Ultra and Google Wi-Fi router, all of which were met with good market response.

So what does the company have in store for 2017? Here are four products Google is expected to launch in 2017:

Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches: The company is expected to launch two new flagship Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches in the first quarter of 2017. The upcoming smartwatches might not come with Google or Pixel branding, but instead have the name of the manufacturer. They are expected to have new features such as standalone apps that can function without a smartphone, Android Pay support and Google Assistant support.

Pixel 2.0: The Pixel smartphone was Google’s masterstroke in 2017 and is still in high demand. Its successor, expected to be released next year, is likely to have a sharper design in comparison to the existing device. Another expected feature is an improved camera. The current device, which comes with a 12.3-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera, has lens flare issues.

While the Pixel is compatible with the Daydream View VR headset, the new device is expected to have augmented reality (AR) features based on the Google Tango platform.

Google Glass 2: When Google debuted the Google Glass in 2012, it was widely appreciated, but Google shut down the project in 2015 over lack of sufficient AR content. The Google Glass used an AR-compatible camera mounted on eyeglasses for gaming and other features. But in 2016, both AR and VR picked up big time. The Google Glass might make a comeback the next year.

Google Robot: Google is training a four-legged robot in its Boston Dynamics division to make deliveries. The robot, called the Spot Mini, was showcased at the Neural Information Processing Systems conference in December and might start making deliveries by 2017-end.
