Google Clips Software Update Adds Timelapse Feature, Improves Facial Expression Recognition
Google’s AI-powered camera, Google Clips, has received a new software update that brings in a bunch of new features. Google Clips can now capture timelapses and it can also detect smiles and expressions even better.
The new Timelapse mode will allow users to “capture a continuous stream of everything the camera sees and condense it into a fast-forwarded timelapse.” Google says that Timelapse can be accessed in the settings of the Google Clips app. The 1.6 update for Google Clips also introduces bug fixes and improvements, including enhancements to some of its AI features.
The update to Google Clips improves the ability to recognize people’s facial expressions, including smiles and funny faces. This should help the camera capture better-timed photos during family gatherings and other events. This appears to be an extension of Google’s previous update to its AI-powered camera from two months ago. The previous update allowed Google Clips to recognize hugs, kisses, jumps and dance moves.
Google Clips is also now smarter when it comes to the types of clips that the user saves and deletes. The update allows the camera to better curate photos to the user in the future. The software update also brings in a new feature that lets users review and restore clips that they’ve recently saved or deleted within the last seven days, according to Android Police.
Google Clips was introduced by Google last year alongside the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The AI-powered camera is designed to capture photos and videos by itself and users will only have to turn it on and place wherever they want. Users are able to view the captured clips through the companion app.
Google has an ongoing summer-themed sale on its online store and Google Clips is now priced at just $169, which is down from its original price of $249. The discounted price will only be available until Tuesday, July 17, according to 9To5Google.
