Google has released the Android N Developer Preview starting from today. The Nexus 5 from 2013 was not included in the list of Nexus devices that are going to receive the Android N Developer Preview 1 edition. However, Google’s Git repositories has revealed that the developers are testing the Android N for LG Nexus 5.

When the Android N Developer Preview was introduced by Google, it announced that the update would be only available for Nexus devices like Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 LTE, Nexus Player and Google Pixel C. The list did not include the Nexus 5.

However, The Bleg has reported that the developers with the search engine giant are currently testing the Developer Preview of Android for Nexus 5. This was confirmed when Hammerhead (codename of Nexus 5) tagged with Android N Preview 1 was found in the repositories of Google Git. However, Google hasn’t officially announced the availability of Android N Developer Preview for LG Nexus 5 yet.

The final edition of the Android N will be released in the third quarter of this year. However, before releasing the final build, Google will be rolling out five preview versions of Android N through OTA update, Tech Crunch reported.

Some of the new features that Android N will bring along include Split Screen mode, enhanced notifications, improved Quick Settings and Data Saver. The Android N Developer Preview 1 will be available as OTA updates for aforementioned Google devices. Users, who wish to install the preview edition manually, can make use of the following preview images:

  • Google Nexus 5X
  • Google Nexus 6P
  • Google Nexus 6
  • Google Nexus 9 (LTE)
  • Google Nexus Player
  • Google Pixel C

Here is a word of caution to beta testers of Android N. Users who flash Android N manually through preview images on their devices from the above listed links will not be able to receive OTA updates automatically.

The preview versions will automatically lead to the full version of Android N. However, it is only possible when users join the beta program to get the Android N OTA updates automatically.
