Google Pixel 4 Fails To Maintain This Essential Display Feature

Google Pixel 4 series is a pack of mixed features. While the smartphones have outstanding upgrades in particular areas like facial recognition and 90 Hz display refresh, it remains inadequate in other areas like battery capacity. This is rather disappointing considering that the search engine giant had a lot of time to learn the ropes when it comes to smartphone design and got the necessary resources to apply its ambitious plans.

Several sites are now reporting about an issue related to the 90Hz screen refresh rate of the Google Pixel 4. It appears that Google’s decision to shortchange its smartphones battery-wise comes with a certain cost. The Google Pixel 4 packs a 2800 mAh battery pack while the Pixel 4 XL houses 3700 mAh cell.

According to reports, several users noticed that while the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL indeed support 90 Hz display refresh rate, the devices are unable to continuously do so unless forced via developer options. The details are recently revealed on Reddit by user Organic Nebula. According to the user, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are capable of 90 Hz refresh at brightness levels beyond 75 percent.

But, when the brightness drops below the 75 percent mark, the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL automatically switch to 60Hz display refresh rate. This might be fine to some users, but for gamers, this is frustrating, especially if they are on low ambient light. Jeff Springer of Dopetechdaily recently shared his observation about the 90 Hz display refresh rate of Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL.

According to him, the 90Hz display refresh is not turned off when the device is on high ambient light even if the brightness is turned down. But, when the ambient level goes down, the refresh rate of both devices springs back to 60 Hz.

XDA Developers' Mishaal Rahman supports this through ADB and logcat. But, there are several ways on how to prevent Google Pixel 4 and Google Pixel 4 XL from going back to the 60Hz screen refresh rate. One is mentioned earlier, which is through enabling developer options. The other involves rooting the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL to change.
