GoPro Hero5 Black Sale: Company Launches First Trade-Up Program
In an effort to boost its sales of its Hero5 cameras, GoPro has launched its very first trade-in program. Starting today, users will be able to get the Hero5 Black for $100 off, or a Hero5 Session $50 off when users send in their older GoPro Hero devices.
To order, go to the GoPro TradeUp webpage, select which Hero5 camera they want, complete the checkout process and send you old GoPro camera back to the company. GoPro says it will cover the shipping fee. Once GoPro has received the user’s old device, the company will ship the Hero5 Black/Session to the user.
Users should know that they can get a lot more than just $100 if they just sell their old camera on eBay, as pointed out by Engadget. However, this is an easier and faster way of getting the Hero5 Black or Hero5 Session for a cheaper price at $299 and $249, respectively.
Another great thing about this new trade-in deal is that GoPro says it will accept users’ dented, dinged or destroyed GoPro camera. “Cameras can be in any condition – working or not – to be eligible for the Trade-Up Program. Cameras can be dead, missing components or even melted in a fire, and we will take them,” the company said on its TradeUp FAQ page.
GoPro says that the new TradeUp Program will only last for a limited time, but did not disclose an exact date on when it will end. The action camera maker also says it will recycle the old GoPro cameras through zero landfill and other recycling methods that are appropriate to material type.
Although the new Hero5 camera has been given the title of best-selling imaging product in the U.S. by The NPD Group, GoPro is struggling to make a profit. GoPro stock hasn’t recovered in the last 14 months and is now nearing an all-time low, according to TechCrunch.
The problem that’s facing the company is trying to convince owners of old GoPro models to upgrade to the Hero5. Previous models are still pretty capable of producing fantastic quality videos which is why a lot of people don’t see a need to upgrade.
