‘Gossip Girl’ Star Leighton Meester Reveals Why She Wouldn’t Dream Of Playing Blair Waldorf Now
“Gossip Girl” star Leighton Meester is extremely grateful for the show for catapulting her to fame, but she admitted that she wouldn’t dream of playing Blair Waldorf if the show is just starting now.
Meester told Rogue Magazine that it all has something to do with age and growing up. “I think I’m different,” she explained. “I started ‘Gossip Girl’ 10 years ago when I was 20, and I’m 30 now. I loved doing it, and now I’m doing something else that I love, and something new that’s a little bit more my taste as a 30-year-old, something I’ve grown into.”
Ever since she gave birth to her daughter, Arlo Day Brody, with husband “The O.C.” star Adam Brody, Meester said her priorities have shifted and she now wants to take on more mature roles. She is going to play a time-travelling colonial woman learning about feminism through the ages in the new show “Making History.” She even said it was love at first sight when she read the script.
“I'm proud to work on a show that uplifts the female lead, and has a not-so-subtle yet approachable commentary on the treatment and mistreatment of women throughout the ages,” she said.
Leighton’s excitement over the “Making History” is quite evident, and she has peppered her social media accounts with teaser photos of the show.
Meanwhile, Brody is going to star in Evan Morgan’s murder mystery “The Kid Detective” together with Sophie Nelisse.
According to Deadline, it is “a darkly satirical murder mystery based on the demoralization of a wholesome American icon.”
“A once-celebrated kid detective (Brody), now 29, continues to solve the same trivial mysteries between hangovers and bouts of self-pity, until a naïve client (Nelisse) brings him his first ‘adult’ case – to find out who brutally murdered her boyfriend,” the feature further read.
