'Gossip Girl' Star Leighton Meester To Star In Netflix's Thriller 'The Weekend Away'

“Gossip Girl” star Leighton Meester is all set to star in Netflix's upcoming psychological thriller, "The Weekend Away."
The movie is based on author Sarah Alderson's novel with the same name which published on July 23, last year. The movie revolves around two best friends who visit Croatia for a weekend getaway but only one returns back home.
Netflix, in a logline, stated: "A weekend getaway to Croatia goes awry when a woman is accused of killing her best friend and her efforts to get to the truth uncover a painful secret."
The 35-year-old actress, who had previously worked in "The Roommate," and "Single Parents," will portray the friend who attempts to uncover the truth in the upcoming movie.
Along with Meester, the movie also stars British actress Christina Wolfe, who worked in "The Royals" and "Batwoman."
"Been So Long" actor Luke Norris and Palestinian actor Ziad Bakri will also play key roles. The movie is helmed by Kim Farrant, who is best known for 2015's "Strangerland."
"I am so excited to see The Weekend Away make it to the screen. To have adapted my own novel makes it even more special, and I am thrilled that Leighton will be bringing this character to life," Alderson told Netflix. She has published some of the best-selling novels such as "Hunting Lila," "Losing Lila," "The Sound" and "Out of Control."
Ben Pugh, Charlie Morrison, and Erica Steinberg are the producers of the upcoming thriller.
Meester was last seen in the crime drama, "Semper Fi," which released on July 9, 2020. The movie was helmed by Henry-Alex Rubin and it also starred Jai Courtney, Finn Wittrock, Nat Wolff, and Beau Knapp.
Her last work on television was comedy sci-fi drama, "The Orville," in which she portrayed Laura Huggins' character. Besides movies and television, the actress also worked on stage in 2014's "Of Mice and Men," which was penned by John Steinbeck.
On the other hand, Wolfe will be seen in the movie, "The Man in the Box," which is directed by Arsen A. Ostojic. The film is based on Thomas Moran's novel and the screenplay is penned by Dan Wicksman and Nuria Wicksman.
