'Gotham' Season 2 Spoilers: 8 Questions After The Fall Finale; What Will Happen When The Show Returns?
Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) went to hell and back in the fall finale of "Gotham" Season 2. Gordon was able to stop Theo Galavan's (James Frain) plan to kill Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and take over the entire city, but Gordon was forced to go against his own morals when he shot Theo dead. So, what's next for Gordon as new villains come into the picture to spread chaos?
Here are eight questions fans have ahead of the midseason premiere on Monday, Feb. 29:
1. Will Theo Galavan Be Back?
Despite being shot dead and having an umbrella jammed down his throat by Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), we may not have seen the last of Theo. At the end of episode 11, Theo's body was shown being taken to the Indian Hill facility where Firefly was taken earlier this season. Strange experiments are done to people there so it's very likely he will be brought back to life, but will it be the same Theo or a brand new villain?
2. Why Is Dr. Fries Already The Villain Mr. Freeze?
In a surprising scene, the fall finale closed by revealing the famous Batman villain Mr. Freeze (Nathan Darrow). It was interesting to see Mr. Freeze, but it's unclear why they showed the doctor as a villain already. The show usually focuses on the origins of villains and what leads to them down that path. In the comics, Dr. Fries didn't become Mr. Freeze until an accident that happened when he was trying cure his sick wife Nora. It looks like they've already made him the villain he's known for on the show after he was shown walking around with his freeze gun and turning a victim to ice.
3. Who Is Professor Strange?
Professor Hugo Strange (BD Wong) should be one the biggest villains on the show for second half of Season 2. He supposedly has "big plans" for Theo's body and is the man in charge of Arkham Asylum, while also being behind the experiments at Indian Hill. Arkham Asylum should be involved more later this season. Showrunner Bruno Heller has said Arkham plays a major role in creating some of city's biggest villains and Strange will also have a part in this.
4. Will Lee Say 'Yes' To Marrying Gordon?
Lee (Morena Baccarin) dropped the bombshell that she is pregnant with Gordon's child. Gordon had her leave town when he went after Theo, but met back up with her when it was over. Lee and Gordon have some issues to work out, as she feels he always puts himself in dangerous situations. When the two sat together, Gordon asked Lee to marry him but the camera cut away from the couple before she could give an answer. Will she say "yes" or will the recent events make her think otherwise?
5. What's On Thomas Wayne's Hard Drive?
This may have gotten lost in fall finale, but when Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) discovered Alfred (Sean Pertwee) and Bruce were missing, he came out of Thomas Wayne's secret room and said he fixed the hard drive on Wayne's computer. Bruce has been looking for the answers and contents of the hard driver all season long. It looks like the future Dark Knight might finally find out what his father was hiding when the show returns in February.
6. What's Next For Tabitha Galavan And Silver?
The sibling rivalry has been building up for weeks and it finally came to a head in episode 11. When Theo grabbed two parachutes and said they were going to leave Silver (Natalie Alyn Lind) behind, Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) snapped at her brother, hit him over the head and escaped his apartment with Silver. Will Tabitha and Silver be back in the second half of the season or will they leave Gotham City after their plan failed?
7. What Will Happen To Gordon Now That He's Crossed The Line?
Gordon took the law into his own hands when he killed Theo instead of allowing the villain to stand trial. Gordon teamed up with Penguin and went against police orders. Will there be consequences because of his actions? And how will this affect his relationship with Capt. Barnes (Michael Chiklis), who is very devoted to the law and doing things the right way?
8. Will Penguin And Nygma Continue To Be A Team?
The teaming of these two villains has been one of the most entertaining parts of the show. In the fall finale, there was a funny scene of Gordon waking up in Nygma's (Cory Michael Smith) apartment and seeing the two sing together while playing piano. Penguin has been teaching Nygma his killing ways after Nygma saved his life. Hopefully, these two will remain partners in crime for the rest of the season.
