'Gotham' Season 2 Update: 'The Wire' Actor Leo Fitzpatrick Joins Cast
Leo Fitzpatrick has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming second season of the FOX drama series “Gotham.” The studio has dubbed season 2 as “Rise of the Villains,” and Fitzpatrick is reportedly set to play a rampaging arsonist in his recurring role.
According to Deadline, Fitzpatrick will be playing the role of Joe Pike, a man who has a penchant for deliberately starting fires. He leads a gang known as the Pike Brothers, and they are the latest addition to a growing list of villains that have already been lined up for the show’s sophomore season.
In contrast to other familiar and iconic “Batman” villains like Penguin, Catwoman and the Joker, Joe Pike appears to have been created specifically for the series. However, ComingSoon.net has suggested that the character might eventually turn out to be connected to other villains that have appeared in the comic books. The report also mentioned the DC Comics character called Firefly.
While he is not known by the name Joe Pike, he has reportedly appeared in the comics with different identities. It remains to be seen how things will play out for Fitzpatrick’s character.
Another villain that was made for the series, Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith), met her demise in the season 1 finale. Several other villains like The Ogre have met the same fate but the new season promises many new bad guys.
Needless to say, main protagonist Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and his partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), will have their hands full. Some of the iconic villains that are continuing into the second season include Penguin and the Riddler. In the series, they are also known by their real names Oswald Cobblepot and Ed Nygma, respectively.
The Joker will also be making a bigger splash after a very brief appearance in season 1 as murderous teenager Jerome Valeska.
‘Gotham’ season 2 premieres on Monday, Sept. 21, at 8:00 pm on FOX.
