‘Gotham’ Season 3 Spoilers: Bruce Will Bring Back ‘Destructive Forces’ To Gotham City

Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) finally found some success in his training with Ra’s Al Ghul (Alexander Siddig), head of the League of Shadows. But with his return to Gotham City imminent, would he completely change after this training?

Mazouz told Cinema Blend that the answer is yes. “[Bruce] is so desperate to find the answer that he believes what these new influences in his life have to tell him. He is going to be conditioned in a way that it looks like he will never be able to return, and I don't know that he ever fully will be able to return,” he said. “And maybe that’s why he eventually chooses to put on the cape and cowl. But your question of 'Will he take these destructive forces back to Gotham City when he eventually returns?,’ the answer is completely yes.”

Mazouz even hinted that Bruce will embrace evil first when he undergoes the transition, so it will take a lot of love and patience from his friends to make him recall his morality. “He will have to be stripped down to his most bare and vulnerable state in order to build himself back up again as the man that we know from Batman, and the man that we started to see him become before this transformation,” he explained. “But throughout this transformation he will be stripped of all of his morals and it will take a great deal of effort and time and support from his loving characters around him to get back on the right track.”

Meanwhile, Ra’s al Ghul’s true motives and loyalties will remain a huge question mark as well. Siddig earlier told Digital Spy that fans will constantly be on their toes with regards to the character. Is he on Bruce’s side? Is he to be trusted? Or does he have an ulterior motive in training Bruce?

“So I really tried to get him so ambiguous that he’s almost liquid – that was the way I thought about it. You’re really not sure if he’s good or bad – no-one knows whether he’s a demon or a saint, or a ghost, that’s a line from the script,” he said. “I suspect that kind of liquidity can only be fascinating. It certainly fascinates me, and I know I’m going to have fun for as long as I end up playing this character.”

With all these complications in Bruce’s life, he is definitely going to need all the help he can get from his butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee). Alfred is not only Bruce’s guardian and friend, but he is also his moral compass.

“Bruce is not nearly where he needs to be in order to be on that level of Batman caliber. He’s definitely a trained martial artist at this point, but he’s not Batman. There’s still loads to be taught mentally, physically, emotionally, and the most important thing he needs to be taught are the rules. There’s his guidelines and figuring out what he’s going to do,” Mazouz told Comic Book Resources.
