Grandmother's Achievement Day: History And Popular Quotes
Grandmother's Achievement Day is celebrated on Feb. 11 annually to reflect on the accomplishments of grandmothers, who are often the first mentors to their families.
While there are no traditional ways to celebrate Grandmother's Achievement Day, people often mark the day by spending time with the matriarchs. Many also bring "forget-me-not" flowers to their grandmothers, following the traditions of the U.S. National Grandparents Day.
A grandmother's role in the cultural development of a family is considered vital.
According to a 2006 comparison study published in the Journal Of Family Communication, it was observed that the grandmother's role in the family varies with culture. Grandmothers in the Euro-American sphere believe they are "companions to their grandchildren," the study found. Meanwhile, grandmothers living in Taiwan "saw themselves primarily as temporary caregivers," the study added.
The study's abstract explained it was concluded after "16 grandmothers of 3-year-old grandchildren participated in in-depth interviews that were customized according to local communicative norms."
