Kelly McCreary is happily pregnant as she is expecting her first child with husband Pete Chatmon. The 39-year-old actress announced the exciting news on her Instagram account Monday.

"When being late comes right on time… Surprise! WE'RE HAVING A BABY!" she wrote. "Pete and I are thrilled to be growing our family, and to share the news with all of you!"

McCreary shared a picture of herself holding a positive pregnancy test with a big smile. The star, who plays Dr. Maggie Pierce on "Grey's Anatomy" met her husband on the set of the long-running ABC series. They tied the knot in 2019.

In an exclusive interview with People, the actress said Chatmon wanted to have a baby as soon as they got married. However, McCreary wanted to hit certain career milestones before she enters motherhood.

"I'm very lucky to have a partner who is just rah, rah, eager for this child to come into our life and find out all of the ways that being parents will disrupt and challenge everything that we have planned," she told People. "But because we are doing it together, we will be able to roll with it. And because this child is so desired and so loved, whatever happens will be the right thing, and we'll make it work."

The actress also revealed how she and her husband were preparing the life lessons they wanted to teach their child.

"My husband and I each made a shortlist of the top five things we would want to impart," McCreary told the outlet. "And, you know, I think on the top of that list is total self-love and self-acceptance. It's all the stuff I would tell my younger self."

The actress also said she had received good pregnancy advice from co-stars Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and Caterian Scorsone.

"They're tremendously helpful, supportive resources," she said. "I really couldn't be in a better workplace environment to have this experience. It's such a parent-friendly and pregnant person-friendly environment."
