We’re still a few weeks away from the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” but director James Gunn has finally revealed the highly-anticipated soundtrack for the upcoming Marvel film.
Available April 21, the soundtrack will include 14 songs from artists such as Cheap Trick, George Harrison, Sam Cooke and Electric Light Orchestra. Speaking about the band, Gunn told Rolling Stone, “I’ve always said that if the Guardians had a house band, it would be ELO.” Check out the soundtrack song list below:
“Awesome Mix Vol. 2” Soundtrack

Following the success of the first film and soundtrack, Gunn had a bigger budget this time around which allowed him to land tunes from bands like Fleetwood Mac. The group’s 1977 song, “The Chain,” plays an big role in the film.
“There are two songs that are the most deeply embedded into the fibers of the film,” the director said. “‘The Chain’ is one because it is about the Guardians, at least in the way we use it, and we use it a couple of times in the movie.”
The other significant track in the upcoming movie is Looking Glass’ 1972 hit, “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl).” According to Gunn, “[‘Brandy’] is an incredibly important song in the movie. Both happen to be two of my favorite songs from the seventies.”
The first film’s soundtrack, “Awesome Mix Vol. 1,” became a huge hit in 2014, spending 11 straight weeks atop Billboard’s Top Soundtracks chart and selling over 1 million copies in the United States. The album also became the first soundtrack in history consisting of previously released music to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Like the first soundtrack, songs on “Awesome Mix Vol. 2” represent Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) mother, Meredith. “She’s a music lover, but she’s completely not elitist,” Gunn noted. “If it’s something that’s thought of as goofy and pop, she likes it. If it’s cool or funk, she likes it.”
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” hits theaters on May 5.
