  • James Gunn teased some details about "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3"
  • The film will explore Rocket's past
  • Gunn intends to wrap the stories he started with the first movie

Director James Gunn teased some details about “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” while interacting with the fans online. The Rocket Raccoon (voice by Bradley Cooper) will have a “big part” in the upcoming film.

Gunn joined a “Quarantine Watch Party” online by interacting with the fans and answering some questions. One of the fans asked the director if his upcoming film will explore Rocket’s backstory. In his reply, Gunn said that the character will play a “big part” in the future.

The fans already know that Rocket is a result of a rather painful experiment, and the previous films have shown the scars on the character’s back from all these experiments. Gunn explained that these scars set up the story of the character that he has planned all along.

Responding to a question from another fan, Gunn revealed that the things on Rocket’s back are actually cybernetics that have been “painfully placed” inside his body. The director added that as far as he is concerned, Rocket’s “loneliness and disaffection is at the center of the franchise.”

With Rocket’s backstory being explored in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” it remains to be seen if the movie will also look at the history of some of the other characters. Gunn said that the trilogy is about “a group of outsiders who have all experienced childhood trauma.”

Drax (Dave Bautista) is the only exception in the group, according to Gunn. The character is the only one among the heroes who has had “a completely positive relationship to those who raised him.”

The upcoming film will end the story arc of the trilogy. Gunn had previously teased that he plans to “wrap up the stories” he started in the first film with the upcoming movie, Screen Rant reported.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is scheduled to be released in 2021.
