  • Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton wanted to have a prenup before tying the knot, a report says
  • The couple's prenup talks went smoothly, with no outrageous demands being made
  • Stefani didn't have a prenuptial agreement with her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton had been talking about marriage long before he proposed last month, according to a report.

An unnamed insider told Us Weekly that Stefani, 51, and Shelton, 44, began discussing their prenuptial agreement months before they announced their engagement last week.

"They have been in prenup talks for a few months," the source said. "The process has been extremely effortless."

The couple had been open about the terms they wanted, and the prenup talks had "no hiccups or outrageous demands" from either party, the insider added. The source told the outlet that Stefani didn't have a prenup with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale and "can’t afford to not have it" in her second marriage.

Despite the prenup talks, Stefani and Shelton, who have been together for five years, remain excited over their upcoming wedding.

"These are two mature adults that love each other," the tipster continued.

Their families are reportedly just as excited over their engagement. An unnamed source earlier told Entertainment Tonight that Stefani's three boys with Rossdale — Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6 — helped Shelton plan the proposal "every step of the way."

"Blake is very close to Gwen's boys," the insider said. "They talked it through and Blake made sure they were part of the excitement! Blake had a custom-made engagement ring. He knows the designer and has used them in the past to make bracelets for Gwen."

Shelton also made sure to get the blessing of Stefani's dad. With the No Doubt singer being "very traditional," Shelton felt that getting her father's approval was the "proper" way to do it, the source added.

Stefani has been ready to tie the knot again for a long time, but she wasn’t in a hurry because she wanted her boyfriend to be ready once they exchange “I do’s,” the source said. And Shelton reportedly knew last month that it was time to take their relationship to the next level.

Shelton and Stefani fell in love on the set of "The Voice" in 2015. Both were going through divorces from their respective exes, Miranda Lambert and Rossdale, at the time.
