“Gwent,” the collectible card game from “The Witcher 3” has a standalone version coming to iOS next month.

The standalone CCG “Gwent: The Witcher Card Game” is coming to iOS starting Oct. 29 this year. Both iPhone and iPad owners will be able to download the free-to-play game on their Apple-branded mobile devices, and those who have played the game on PC will be able to carry their progress into the mobile version of the game.

Polygon noted that “Gwent” started out as a minigame on the award winning CD Projekt RED open world RPG. Players needed to find collectible cards located throughout the game’s huge world. The minigame became so popular that the game developers thought it best to create a standalone version for it.

The standalone version was announced during E3 in 2016. Years later, it is now scheduled for release on iOS. A release for Android is not known at the moment, but CD Projekt Red said an Android version is coming soon at a “later date,” Engadget reported.

The card game “Gwent” is totally unlike other CCGs “Hearthstone” and “Magic: The Gathering.” “Gwent” has players playing their cards in multiple rows, and putting cards on each row results in different results, offensive or defensive.

With “Gwent,” players will need to do more than select cards to play on. Players will also need to master the art of knowing what row to put their cards on so they can benefit from it the most. “Gwent’s” developers worked hard on improving this mechanic in 2018, turning it into something the gaming community wants.

“We have never accepted ‘good enough’ at our company,” CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwiński said last year. “We have always taken risks and made bold decisions if we believed they would result in a better game. And, you’ve guessed it, we’ve just made one now.”

“Gwent” was also popular it became an inspiration for another game called “Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.” This title is an isometric role-playing game also set in the world of “The Witcher.” It uses “Gwent” to fuel its events, whether they are combat or non-combat encounters.

“Gwent: The Witcher Card Game” is set to be released for iOS on Oct. 29th.
