Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals How She's Protecting Herself From Coronavirus By Seemingly Referencing Film 'Contagion'
Appearing in “Contagion” has seemingly fueled Gwyneth Paltrow to take extra precaution when it comes to the Coronavirus.
Paltrow seemed to reference the 2011 film, which centers around a global pandemic, as she revealed the steps she’s taking to protect herself from the respiratory disease in a social media post. The actress shared a photo wearing a face mask while flying to Paris on Instagram Wednesday.
She captioned the post: “En route to Paris. Paranoid? Prudent? Panicked? Placid? Pandemic? Propaganda? Paltrow’s just going to go ahead and sleep with this thing on the plane. I’ve already been in this movie. Stay safe. Don’t shake hands. Wash hands frequently.”
As Yahoo Celebrity reports, Paltrow’s precautionary mask is by Airinum and costs over $100. And it seems that many others are taking similar steps to protect themselves given that all the masks on the site are currently sold out.
Actress Kate Hudson, who shared an Instagram photo wearing a surgical face mask on Tuesday, commented on Paltrow’s post, writing “At least you have the right mask!!!”
As CNN reports, surgical face masks don’t block smaller germs, so they aren’t considered effective when it comes to the current pandemic.
Others to comment on Paltrow’s post included Brooklyn Decker, celebrity choreographer Isaac Calpito, and Katie Sturino.
“Do it girl,” Decker encouraged.
“Contagion moments...Stay safe, bebe,” Calpito wrote.
“You just influenced me again! Mask purchased,” Sturino added. “WHO KNOWS”
In contrast, some users called Paltrow out for encouraging panic with her post.
One critic commented: “Oh for god sake, get a grip! It's things like this that spark hysteria. If you're that worried, don't go, a mask won't save you anyway!”
“Why are you spreading panic when there is already too much of that everywhere?” another person said.
According to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, there are currently 60 verified cases of the Coronavirus in the United States.
