Harry Kane made a shocking Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi admission.
Ronaldo and Messi have evidently become two of the most celebrated players of modern football.
However, the likes of Kane, Kylian Mbappe and more recently Erling Halaand are all being recognized as world-class talent as well.
In an exclusive interview with Gary Neville for SkyBet's “The Overlap,” Kane revealed that his “ultimate goal” is to be put on same footing as Ronaldo and Messi.
Many may have been convinced by Kane’s skill set, but for the Tottenham talisman, a line is still drawn between him and the pair.
"I'm not afraid to say that I want to be the best,” Kane admitted. “I'm not afraid to say I want to try get on the level that [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi got to. You know, that's my ultimate goal. That's my aim, to be winning trophies season in, season out. Scoring 50, 60, 70 goals season in, season out. That's the standard I want to set myself."
"I don't want to have come to the end of my career and have any regrets," he added. "So, I want to be the best that I can be. I still feel like I've still got almost another career to play. I've got another 7 or 8 years. I'm not rushing anything. I'm not desperate to do anything. I feel like for sure I've got so much more to give. I feel like I can be even better than what I've been. I can produce better numbers than what I'm producing at the moment."
Despite enjoying an illustrious career, one major thing that separates Kane from Ronaldo and Messi is the fact that he hasn’t won a single title yet.
With that in mind, many have been vocal about urging Kane to ditch Tottenham and take his talents elsewhere.
Among them is former Spurs and Real Madrid star Jonathan Woodgate.
According to Woodgate, if Kane really wants to reach Ronaldo and Messi’s stature, he should join a club with an evident winning ability.
“If Real Madrid come in for you–especially Harry Kane, he has got to go,” Woodgate pointed out during an interview with Stadium Astro earlier this year . “If he wants to win trophies and get onto that next pedestal of [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and that type of player, he has to go.”
“I don’t see him winning the league at Spurs, not this season and not in the next few seasons, they have got too much building to do to get up there with Liverpool and Man City,” he continued. “For me, if he wants to win the European Cup, then he has got a chance of winning it at Real Madrid.”
