KEY POINTS
- Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho addressed Harry Kane and the team's situation after struggling this season
- Mourinho insisted Kane and his other important players will not be sold this summer
- Mourinho is confident the team will "manage" without having to sell big players
Jose Mourinho has addressed the Spurs’ situation, dismissing the rumors saying Harry Kane is bound to depart Tottenham for Real Madrid or Manchester United at the end of the Premier League season.
After a frustrating 2019/20 Premier League season, Tottenham found itself at the seventh spot in the standings. With just one game left before concluding this year’s campaign, Spurs could end up at the sixth spot. However, this still means Mourinho’s side will miss this year’s Champions League.
Despite this, Mourinho has remained positive about the Spurs’ future. With one of the best strikers in the world still on his side, Mourinho keeps his head up high and has made it clear that the team will not undergo major rebuilding this summer.
In a recent interview, the Spurs boss addressed the team’s current situation, shutting down the resurfacing rumors saying Kane, along with some of his other key players, could very well be bound to leave his side. According to Mourinho, Tottenham may have had a frustrating season this year, but they can still manage without having to sell important players.
“Have I had assurances I will not need to sell key players this summer? Yes. There will be small changes — a big overhaul needs a lot of money,” Mourinho said, as quoted by The Sun. “I don’t think there are many clubs ready to buy, buy, buy — the ones that are going to is because they can do it with or without FFP.”
"We don’t want to sell our important players and that immediately is a limitation because by not selling big players you also don’t have big incomings. So we are going to be very balanced but again the objective is to improve the squad. I’m totally convinced we’re going to manage,” he added.
Kane has been linked to moves to Real Madrid and Man United in the past. However, these speculations were revived following Tottenham’s underwhelming run.
Despite reportedly growing tired of Tottenham’s poor performances, Kane managed to maintain his impressive goal scoring form. After his brace in the decisive 3-0 win over Leicester on July 19, Mourinho lauded Kane once again.
The renowned manager had nothing but lavish praise for his star player. When asked to compare Kane to some of his best strikers, notably Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mourinho said that the England captain is a unique player and "second to none."
