Harry Styles Helps Fan Come Out As Gay During Concert: 'Lisa, She's Gay!' [Watch]
Harry Styles helped a fan named McKinley McConnell come out to her mother during his concert in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Wednesday night. The life-changing moment for the fan happened midway through the show when Styles noticed her sign that read, “My mom is in Section 201. Help me come out.”
A viral video of the moment shows that upon seeing her sign, Styles asked to stop the music so he could talk to McConnell in the pit. “What would you like to tell your mother? I can tell her if you’d like,” he told McConnell.
“Okay, there’s a lot of people!” McConnell replied, to which Styles joked, “There is a lot of people. Did you not know? Did you think this through?”
“Okay, do you want to tell her, or should I tell her?” the singer asked again. “I can tell her yeah, no problem,” he continued, before going to the other side of the stage to address McConnell’s mom.
“Lisa, she’s gay!” Styles shouted, as the fans, including McConnell’s mom, cheered at McConnell’s confession. The clip then shows Lisa covering her face in her hands before throwing flying kisses to her daughter.
Styles then jokingly interrupted the moment, saying, “Now, I don’t want to ruin the moment, but wouldn’t it be nice if you were a little bit closer together?”
In an interview with NBC, McConnell said she and her mom traveled all the way from Los Angeles, California, to attend the concert. That was also the reason why they were seated so far apart. “I literally got her the ticket so last minute,” she explained. “I was lucky to get a ticket for the general admission pit for myself. I know my mom, and she wouldn’t have been up for the pit.”
She also revealed that after the concert, her mom joked about her always having “a flair for dramatics,” referring to her decision to ask Styles to help her come out in front of a huge crowd. “I’m really beyond blessed that both my parents are so supportive,” she said.
McConnell said she believes her parents had always known that she’s gay, even though they tried to act like they didn’t. “She just kept saying she loves me and is proud of me,” she said.
