Harvey Weinstein Denies Rape: There 'Were Never Any Acts Of Retaliation'
Harvey Weinstein is in hot water for sexual harassment and rape, but the media mogul is firmly denying that he sexually assaulted anyone.
Weinstein finally released a statement regarding the rape allegations made against him. "Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein," his spokesperson, Sallie Hofmeister, said in a statement to Us Weekly.
The spokesperson added that Weinstein never forced himself or sought revenge against the women who turned him down. He apparently also sought therapy for his issues, although these were not specified in the statement. "Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances. Mr. Weinstein obviously can't speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to any women who have made allegations on the record, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual. Mr. Weinstein has begun counseling, has listened to the community and is pursuing a better path. Mr. Weinstein is hoping that, if he makes enough progress, he will be given a second chance," she continued.
Following the sexual harassment reports, Weinstein was fired from his own company due to misconduct. In addition, his wife, Georgina Chapman, also announced that she is leaving the film producer.
"My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband," she said in a statement to People. "Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time."
Chapman's decision comes as a surprise as Weinstein previously stated that he has his wife's support. "She stands 100 percent behind me. Georgina and I have talked about this at length," he said.
Meanwhile, Weinstein is gearing up for a legal battle against a media outlet over reports of his alleged sexual harassment. A source told Us Weekly that he has hired high-powered attorney Blair Berk, whose previous clients include Britney Spears, Kiefer Sutherland, Heather Locklear, Mel Gibson and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Weinstein is planning to sue The New York Times over the false sexual harassment claims. His legal counsel, Charles Harder, told The Hollywood Reporter that the publication released "mostly hearsay accounts and a faulty report."
However, the publication stood by the accuracy of their report. "We are confident in the accuracy of our reporting," a spokesperson for The New York Times said in a statement when asked for a comment. "Mr. Weinstein was aware and able to respond to specific allegations in our story before publication. In fact, we published his response in full."
