Harvey Weinstein is experiencing a fever and has been placed in isolation as doctors suspect that he contracted COVID-19, a report says.

The disgraced movie mogul, 68, has a 101-degree fever and is "doing poorly," TMZ reported, citing unnamed "law enforcement sources with direct knowledge" of Weinstein's condition. He has also been suffering from various health issues that coincide with symptoms of COVID-19, the report said.

Doctors placed Weinstein in isolation for 72 hours as they await the results of a test performed Tuesday morning, sources said. If he tests positive for the coronavirus, Weinstein will be transferred to the hospital at the Wende Correctional Facility, the maximum security prison in New York where the Miramax founder is serving his 23-year sentence.

The law enforcement sources added that Weinstein is showing "very serious" symptoms and is suffering from "various health problems which complicate his current condition," including diabetes, heart problems and high blood pressure.

Weinstein's alleged new bout with COVID-19 is not a mild case as he is at high risk due to his age, current illness and overall health, the sources said.

It was reported earlier this year that Weinstein battled COVID-19. However, the tipsters said he was never officially diagnosed.

In March, Michael Powers, president of the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, told multiple media outlets, including Reuters and NBC News, that Weinstein tested positive for the coronavirus. He was placed in isolation, while prison staff who came in contact with him were quarantined.

His spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, later confirmed to Reuters that Weinstein "has no symptoms and no issues" two weeks after Powers said he had tested positive.

Prior to this, Weinstein was hospitalized with chest pains in early March, just days after he was transferred to the Wende Correctional Facility from NYC's Rikers Island.

"It’s known that he has a weak heart," Engelmayer explained. "So, right after the sentencing, when he went back to Rikers, he was faint and talking funny, and the staff at Rikers felt it was best to send him back to make sure nothing happened to him. He has heart issues and serious health issues and they wanted to make sure he was okay."

Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in March for rape and sexual assault.
