Heart-Shaped Engagement Rings Next Big Trend Thanks To Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga

Move over, princess cut. There’s a new diamond trend in town and we think it’s here to stay. Heart-shaped diamonds are rising in popularity among celebrities. Big names like Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga have been seen sporting the adorable cut on their fingers, and Adelaide Polk-Bauman, PR director at Forevermark Diamonds, thinks “we can expect to see more demand of the shape” in the future.

Polk says a heart-shaped diamond “typically does not maximize the caratage of the rough as well as a round brilliant diamond.” While that may be true, it hasn’t stopped influencers from pushing their limits regarding size.

According to E! Online, Nicki’s yellow diamond clocks in at a whopping 15 carats. Polk says the female emcee's latest accessory is a “very classic design.” The ring, which is believed to have been a gift from rapper boyfriend Meek Mill, is “a double halo of pave diamonds” paired with the unique center stone. Although Polk says it is difficult to put an exact price tag on this massive stone without a clear view of the side, she notes that “the diamond itself could be worth over $500,000.”

While many speculate the jewelry is an engagement ring, neither Nicki nor Meek has confirmed. Us Weekly believes the ring could be a part of an elaborate scheme. The magazine suggests Nicki’s Instagram photo showing her new bling sitting comfortably on her ring finger may be her way of promoting her song “Buy a Heart,” which features Meek.

The couple began dating in February, shortly after she split from Safaree Samuels, whom she dated for nearly 11 years. In a recent interview with XXL, Meek revealed that Nicki is “the girl that I wanted,” adding that being with her has changed him.

“I don’t really hold hands, but like, I’ll hold hands with you,” he said. “They can catch me in the pictures doing anything nowadays, holding an umbrella for Nicki, you know what I’m saying?”

Nicki isn’t the only big name in Hollywood rocking the unique trend. Lady Gaga received a 6-carat heart-shaped engagement ring from fiancé Taylor Kinney on Valentine’s Day. Although her ring is nearly half the size of Nicki's, MTV assures readers the stone is of impeccable quality. As gorgeous as the center stone may be, that’s not the best part about Gaga’s ring. After making the initial announcement that she and the actor were engaged, the 29-year-old revealed her thoughtful future hubby had their initials, TS (her real name is Stefani Germanotta), put in the diamond-encrusted band.
