Henry Cavill may not appear in another solo “Superman” movie.
According to Screen Rant, Cavill’s stand-alone “Superman” is unlikely to happen. It could also be over because Warner Bros. reportedly doesn’t believe that Cavill can lead another DCEU movie at this time.
The report came after an insider told Heroic Hollywood of Warner Bros.’ stand regarding the franchise. The media and entertainment conglomerate is reportedly not confident that there is sufficient interest in Cavill’s solo “Superman” adventure. However, they are trying to build up the character by giving him supporting roles.
“A stand-alone Superman movie would not be successful at this time. Perhaps once there's more momentum after playing a supporting role in some successful DC films, there would be more of a chance for a stand-alone film,” the source said.
However, one should take the report with a grain of salt because according to the publication, Superman's return to life remains to be one of the highlights of “Justice League.” Moreover, Cavill has only become even more popular following his stint in “Mission: Impossible - Fallout” and Netflix’s “The Witcher.”
Cavill first donned the red cape in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” in 2013. He returned in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League.” Since it has been over five years since his first solo “Superman” movie and there is still no sequel, many are wondering if Cavill is leaving the iconic superhero role. But he set the record straight in an interview back in December.
“The cape is in the closet,” Cavill told Mens’ Health’s. “It’s still mine. I’m not going to sit quietly in the dark as all the stuff is going on. I’ve not given up on the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honest of the character I wasn’t to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”
According to Deadline, even if the “Man of Steel” sequel is not in the works, Cavill could make a cameo as Superman in “Shazam 2,” “Black Adam” or “Aquaman 2.”
