Here's What The Snake Catcher Did After He Was Bitten By A Poisonous Snake
A wildlife snake catcher from Australia did the most unexpected thing after being bitten by a poisonous tiger snake.
Jamie Lind, a snake catcher from Australia was called to remove a snake from a property in Willaura, around 100kms west of Ballarat. Lind had extracted and secured one snake and was giving instructions to the house owner about what to do in case if she gets bitten.
That’s when he spotted a second snake near the property. He quickly asked the owner to step back. Lind described it as one of the biggest tiger snakes that he had ever seen.
As he grabbed the snake and picked it above his head, the snake swung viciously and moved to bite the snake catcher on his face. Lind avoided the strike, however, the snake got him the second time in his shoulder blade, under the armpit.
The snake had caught him by surprise and he immediately started to feel the effects of the bite.
“The effects of the bite took effect straight away. I started passing out and vomiting,” Lind told the Courier.
Lind, who should have focused on getting medical aid, instead did an unexpected thing. He rushed to call his wife and kids, even though he believed he was on the verge of death.
“I called my wife and children when I was at the property to say goodbye. I didn't think I would make it,” he said. “The site was impossible to bandage.”
The house owner helped him to administer first aid and called for help. An ambulance arrived forty minutes later and he was taken to the hospital.
Lind survived the incident after he was given multiple doses of antivenom. He is currently recovering at the Ballarat Base Hospital.
On Wednesday Lind's wildlife education business, Jamie and Kim’s Mobile Zoo, shared a statement on social media, where they thanked everyone for their support.
The snake catcher told reporters that he will be retiring from catching snakes and reptiles, something which he did part-time after managing his mobile zoo with his wife.
"My wife demands that I give it up," he said. “It was a very close call.”
