A royal photographer believes Princess Diana would not have gotten along with her younger son Prince Harry's wife Meghan Markle.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, John Swannell, a longtime trusted photographer of the royal family, speculated that the late princess wouldn't have been an admirer of the 41-year-old Duchess of Sussex because she would think that Markle has "stolen" her son.
"I don't think she would have liked her because she'd think she'd stolen her son," Swannell told the outlet at Brown's Hotel, a five-star luxury hotel in Mayfair, England.
The photographer claimed that Prince Harry is "like a puppet now." He also said that he's "convinced" that the former actress had an "agenda" when she came to the United Kingdom, which was to "meet her future husband."
"She was a little-known actress and an opportunity came up, and she took it, like anybody would. But she's a very smart woman, that's for sure. She's an operator," he claimed of Markle.
Swannell, 75, apparently had a close relationship with Princess Diana before her tragic death in Paris, France, in 1997. The photographer was personally commissioned by the late royal to take classic portraits of her with her sons, Prince William, 40, and Prince Harry, 38.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex married at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle in 2018 after two years of dating. However, speculations surfaced that the couple was at odds with the royal family after they released their 2019 documentary, "Harry & Meghan: An African Journey."
When British journalist Tom Bradby asked Markle in the documentary about how she was handling her new life as a royal, she responded that it was "challenging" as she had to balance becoming a "new mom or trying to be a newlywed."
Markle then expressed her gratitude toward the journalist for "asking" because she said "not many people" have asked if she was OK.
In 2020, Prince Harry and Markle stepped back from their roles as senior working royals and relocated to California, where they now live with their two children, 3-year-old son Archie and 1-year-old daughter Lilibet.
A year later, the couple revealed in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that they left the royal family because of a "lack of support and understanding" from the monarchy while facing "toxic" media coverage.
In the interview, Markle also accused the royal family of fostering an atmosphere of racial hostility, alleging that there were "concerns and conversations" about how dark their then-unborn son Archie's skin would be.
Since then, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex only returned to the U.K. to visit the late Queen Elizabeth II in April and to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June. They returned to the country to attend charity events in early September, but due to the death of his beloved grandmother on Sept. 8, they prolonged their stay to attend the Queen's funeral on Sept. 19.
The royal family's conflict is yet to be resolved, and the couple now awaits the decision of Prince Harry's father, King Charles III, on whether their children Archie and Lilibet would be allowed to use prince and princess titles, according to Page Six.
