Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson reprised their roles for the “Fast & Furious” spinoff movie, “Hobbs & Shaw.” Universal Pictures

Audiences seemed to enjoy “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” after it managed to garner over $750 million at the worldwide box office this past summer, so it’s only natural for Universal Pictures to start thinking of what’s next for the “Fast & Furious” spinoff.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, producer Hiram Garcia gave some feedback on the film and revealed that talks have been taking place in regards to a “Hobbs & Shaw” sequel after its successful launch.

“We are having conversations, we were so happy with how it did,” Garcia said. “The studio was extremely happy and there’s been a lot of great conversations just about seeing where things layout. Obviously ['Fast & Furious 9'] is on its way. That’s going to do great things. Taking some bits from that, 'cause it’s all a shared universe and it’s all in the works.”

“Hobbs & Shaw” saw Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Shaw from the “Fast & Furious” franchise teaming up in an action-packed ride as they fought against a cybernetically enhanced criminal named Brixton (Idris Elba). The film received a positive response from audiences after it’s release, earning an 88% positive audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Released in August, “Hobbs & Shaw” received $173.8 million domestically and $585.1 internationally for a worldwide total of $758.9 million at the box office.

While a sequel to the spinoff has yet to be developed, Universal is currently busy prepping for next year’s “Fast & Furious 9,” the next installment in the main series. The sequel to “The Fate of the Furious” will bring back most of the cast and is scheduled to release on May 22, 2020. After that, “Fast & Furious 10” is scheduled to be released on April 2, 2021, to conclude the series.

“Hobbs & Shaw” is now available on Digital HD, DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD.
