'Homeland' Season 5 Spoilers: Premiere Photos Reveal Carrie And Saul Will Reunite In Episode 1, 'Separation Anxiety’
When “Homeland” Season 4 concluded last winter, viewers were left uncertain about where the relationship between Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) was headed. Fans will remember that, in a quest to discover Peter Quinn’s (Rupert Friends) location, Carrie visited the home of two-timing CIA agent Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham). After threatening to expose the operative’s actions in Islamabad, Carrie discovered Saul sitting inside his home.
When “Homeland” Season 5 premieres next month it will be over two years after the events in last year’s finale and it appears Carrie and Saul will have some sort of relationship. Photos from episode 1, “Separation Anxiety,” reveal that the two will reunite in the premiere. Photos released by the network Monday show Carrie, who will be working as the head of a security for a German philanthropist, and Saul, who was passed over to serve as the head of the agency, dressed in professional garb and appearing to have a tense discussion near a stairwell. Will Saul pay Carrie a visit in Berlin?
While the premiere photos confirm Carrie and Saul will share screen time in the Season 5 opener, it doesn’t appear Carrie’s life will be all about work in episode 1. One shot shows Carrie appearing to have a chat with her new boyfriend and co-worker Jonas Happich (Alexander Fehling). Other photos show her tucking in her daughter Franny with the late Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) and taking her for a bike ride.
“This season we get to see these characters metamorphosize into very different people. Carrie has settled into true domesticity. She’s doing great for about 5 minutes,” Danes says in a behind-the-scenes look at Season 5.
The premiere photos reveal that other familiar -- and some new -- faces will also appear in episode 1. Quinn returns in a few alarming images. One shot shows him chatting with Saul, who will reportedly be his secret ali in Season 5. The still appears to originate from a scene in the trailer where Saul assigns Quinn to perform an assassination, asking him to bring back "proof of death." A second image shows Quinn setting up a bomb as an unnamed man sits in a corner with his mouth bound in tape. “Two minutes to prepare yourself for paradise,” Quinn tells the man in the trailer.
Other characters making cameos in the premiere photos include Carrie’s new boss Otto Düring (Sebastian Koch), Allison Carr (Miranda Otto), Sheik Hafiz (Samir Fuchs), Numan (Atheer Adel) and Mills (Micah Hauptman).
“Homeland” Season 5 premieres Sunday, Oct. 4, on Showtime. Check out the Season 5 trailer here and several photos from the premiere episode below:
