In January, a homeless man in New York allegedly beat up and robbed a person, who offered the former his coat. The 59-year-old victim was walking down the sidewalk in front of 476 5th Avenue when he came across the accused Xavier Israel, 25, lying on the pavement. The victim tried to warm him up by gently placing his coat on top of him, but, within minutes, Israel jumped to his feet and knocked the man to the ground. Surveillance footage from the nearby cameras showed Israel grabbing the defenseless victim’s wallet from his back pocket. Israel was arrested and levied several charges including assault, robbery and grand larceny. He had allegedly carried out a similar attack on a man just days prior to the incident.
