Horrified Ukrainian Girl Narrowly Escapes Blast From A Russian Missile Attack [Video]

A young woman captured a video as she narrowly missed a missile attack in Kyiv during one of Russia's biggest strikes against Ukraine in months.

The girl, identified only by her first name as Alina, recorded a selfie video while walking near the Taras Shevchenko National University, as per reports, when Russian missiles came raining down on the Ukrainian capital and several other cities during rush hour, Monday.

In the video shared on Twitter, the sound of an incoming missile is heard in the background moments before fire and debris are seen flying over the horrified woman. She lets out a small cry and is seen scrambling away before the video cuts off.

"We need air defense systems and modern combat planes!" Anton Gerashchenko, an advisor to Ukraine's interior ministry, tweeted as he shared the video.

Another video shared on social media showed a pedestrian miss a Russian missile and run down Kyiv's Klitschko bridge as the smoke bellowed a few feet away, according to BBC.

Over 10 cities in Ukraine were pounded by the barrage of explosions during rush hour. At least 14 people were killed and nearly 100 were left wounded as Russian missiles struck when civilians were commuting to work or school.

The attack cut the power supply in regions of Kyiv, Lviv, Sumy, Ternopil and Khmelnytsky.

The widespread strike was Russia's revenge attack after Ukraine blasted a part of the Kerch bridge connecting Russia and Crimea on Saturday, CNN reported.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the destruction of the Kerch bridge a "terrorist attack." In retaliation, Russian forces targeted energy infrastructure and military command facilities with "precision weapons," Putin said, as reported by AP News.

He also said his forces would hit Ukraine with "tough" and "proportionate" responses if Russia's security is threatened. "No one should have any doubts about it," he told Russia's Security Council, as per the outlet.

While Putin made no mention of the attack on Ukrainian civilians in his Monday address, 45 residential buildings, six educational institutions and five healthcare facilities were reportedly damaged in Kyiv alone.

President Joe Biden had a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the "importance of air defense" and the U.S.'s "continued contributions" to support Ukraine.

"Today's strikes against civilian targets throughout Ukraine are a sign of weakness of the Russian army which is losing on the battlefield," Zelensky said in the call. "It is pure terror. But we will not succumb to the Russian missile blackmail."
