Ousted Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak will stand trial on charges over killing of protestors and on charges of misuse of public funds for personal use.
Reuters reported that Mubarak's two sons Gamal and Alaa, who were arrested on April 13, are also under trail on charges of abuse of power and illicit gain. The decision was announced at Cairo's Tahrir square.
Mubarak was forced out of office on Feb. 11 after mass demonstrations ended his three decade rule.
He is currently in custody at the Red Sea resort in Sharm el-Sheikh's military hospital since he suffered health problems under initial questioning by officials from the public prosecutor's office.
One of the rallying points for demonstrators against Mubarak was that he had amassed huge fortunes at the expense of the state, a charge which Mubarak has denied.
Reuters reported that Switzerland's Foreign Ministry had earlier this month said it had found 410 million Swiss francs traced to Mubarak.
