‘House Of Cards’ Season 5 Spoilers: Neve Campbell On The Show’s Future
The political drama “House of Cards” from Netflix lost its showrunner Beau Willimon before entering its Season 5, but they gained two in lieu of him - Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson, who joined the series as senior writers in Season 3.
Neve Campbell, who plays political consultant Leann Harvey in the series, said they all felt the loss of Willimon deeply. “It felt different in the sense that we love Beau. He became a dear friend to all of us. And it’s a family on the show. So in that way it's challenging, and the man’s a genius,” she said, according to Cinema Blend.

However, Campbell had to laud the network for selecting its new showrunners. “I think Netflix was really smart in not taking someone from outside the show, and trying to bring them in. Because they had big shoes to fill. So having Frank and Melissa take over, who were already writing on the show, and already knew the voices of the characters, and knew where Beau was going with. I think that was a very smart move,” she said.
Next season, Kevin Spacey will be reprising his role as President Frank Underwood, Robin Wright as First Lady Claire Underwood, Michael Kelly as Doug Stamper, Paul Sparks as Thomas Yates, and Campbell as Harvey. Mahershala Ali’s Remy Danton, on the other hand, will no longer be a part of the show.
There will be some exciting new characters as well. Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott have booked “major roles” next season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While details of their roles are still being kept a secret for now, it has already been confirmed that they will both be featured heavily in the new season.
Exciting things are in store for next season, since Frank is up to his usual devious antics. In the brand new trailer for Season 5, Frank can be heard talking to his wife Claire while several scenes play out teasing what is about to come. “The American people don’t know what’s best for them,“ he tells her. ”I do. I know exactly what they need.”
“They’re like little children, Claire,” Frank continues his spiel. “We have to hold their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouths. Teach them right from wrong. Tell what to think and how to feel and what to want. They even need help writing their wildest dreams. Crafting their worst fears. Lucky for them, they have me. They have you.”
It seemed like Frank is planning to lead America not just today, but in the years to come as he promises to hold office for six terms. “Underwood, 2016. 2020. 2024. 2028. 2032. 2036. One nation, Underwood,” he says.
It remains to be seen what Frank and Claire will do in their quest for power, but it will definitely be entertaining watching the two in action.
“House of Cards” Season 5 will premiere this May 30 on Netflix.
