While President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, have varying backgrounds, the two have been married for 14 years. Trump, a businessman turned president, and Melania, a former model that is now first lady, have stuck by each other’s sides as they forged a path into the White House.

This high-profile couple has turned heads with supporters and critics alike, but the two remain together, after meeting for the first time at a party in 1998.

Melania, who came to the U.S. in 1996, was attending the party as a model as part of New York Fashion Week. Trump was also there, but had planned to meet someone else when she caught his eye, CheatSheet reported.

According to the news outlet, Trump went ahead and asked Melania for her number, but she declined to give it to the soon-to-be president. Instead, she asked for his phone number, and he gave her four different numbers, giving plenty of indication that he was interested in her and serious about dating her, CheatSheet said.

The couple soon began a serious relationship with a few reported breakups along the way, but Trump did propose to Melania in 2004 with an estimated $1.5 million ring.

Trump and Melania were married in January 2005, in what many considered the social event of the year. A total of 350 guests were in attendance for the wedding, which was held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Resort, including celebrities such as Billy Joel and Barbara Walters as well as his rival presidential opponent, Hilary Clinton and her husband Bill Clinton, according to the news outlet.

For the wedding, Melania reportedly wore a $100,000 Christian Dior gown that was adorned with 1,500 crystals.

Trump has been married twice before meeting Melania. Trump is Melania’s first husband.
