How Does ‘OITNB’ Star Dascha Polanco Prepare Her Kids For School?

“Orange is the New Black” star Dascha Polanco recently shared how she prepares her kids every morning for school.

While speaking with Us Weekly, the actress shared that her 15-year-old daughter Dasany’s hip-hop song alarm is the first thing that she hears at 5 a.m. Unfortunately, that alarm doesn’t stop ringing until it’s 6 a.m., and it’s actually time for her to get out of bed.

Polanco is still always the first one up, and she would go to Dasany’s room to wake her up by pulling her sheets. Once her daughter is up, Polanco would brush her teeth and change her sleepwear. “My favorite thing to wear to take them to school is my scrubs from when I used to work in the hospital, a little tee, my hair is like whatever. I don’t care if I look like a hot mess,” she said.

Meanwhile, Polanco’s 7-year-old son, Aryam, doesn’t need much nudging to wake up in the morning, but he spends so much time in the bathroom. Aryam typically wakes up at 7:15 a.m. “He has to shower, do his hair. He’s got like a whole little production, so I have to be on top of him like, ‘You’re going to be late,’” she said.

Polanco, who plays the role of Dayanara Diaz, normally prepares the same breakfast for her kids every single day. According to her, they love an egg sandwich with runny yolk. Before leaving the school, the kids are also asked to walk their family dog.

This year, Polanco is teaching her kids the importance of being independent. Her son now packs his own turkey or peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch. “I appreciate that my parents taught me independence. It’s important so that the day that I’m not here, they know how to take care of themselves,” she concluded.

Polanco will reprise her role in the upcoming sixth season of “Orange is the New Black.” In Season 5, Dayanara played a crucial role in standing up for her fellow inmates. Unfortunately, she will be facing some charges in Season 6 for shooting a police officer and inciting violence at Litchfield.

“Orange is the New Black” Season 6 will premiere sometime in June 2018.
