How To Get HBO Max For Free On May 27
UPDATE: May 27, 12:57 p.m. -- HBO Max and Comcast have reached an agreement to bring the service to Xfinity customers at no extra cost. Customers who already pay for the HBO channel can access it now on the HBO Max website and app. The platform will be added to the Xfinity X1 platform and the Xfinity Flex in the future.
Original Story: HBO Max launches Wednesday, but many users won’t have to pay for it. Though WarnerMedia's new streaming service is a standalone subscription, HBO Max will grant free access to several groups of people.
The streaming platform, available at HBOMax.com, will be available for $14.99 per month, and a special introductory rate $11.99 per month for a year for those who pre-order by Tuesday. However, before signing up, users should check if they already have HBO Max for free.
Cord cutters who are HBO Now subscribers will get HBO Max at no extra cost. Those with traditional cable subscriptions or online TV packages may also get free HBO Max access if they have the HBO channel on their plan. HBO Max has agreements with the following companies: AT&T TV, DIRECTV, AT&T U-Verse, Hulu, Spectrum, Altice, Suddenlink, Optimum, Cox Contour and Verizon Fios TV. They also have some deals with independent cable companies.
While that’s many providers, it’s not all of them. Most notably, HBO Max does not have a deal with Comcast’s Xfinity service nor Amazon or Roku at press time. Customers will have to subscribe to HBO Max independently and pay the subscription fee.
Subscribers can watch HBO Max on most popular devices. Android and Apple devices will both have HBO Now apps, and PlayStation 4 and Samsung smart TVs (from 2016 on) will be able to directly access the service too.
HBO Max will have several originals available on launch day among their 10,000 hours of content. Expect to see kids crafting competition “Craftopia,” the rebooted “Looney Tunes Cartoons,” Anna Kendrick’s rom-com “Love Life,” Sesame Street’s “Not Too Late With Elmo,” LGBTQ reality series “Legendary” and #MeToo documentary “On The Record.”
More originals will be added to the new streaming platform on a regular basis, including Selena Gomez's quarantine cooking show, an Amy Schumer documentary, an animated series about Ellen DeGeneres’ childhood (“Little Ellen”) and Lupita Nyong’o’s adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Americanah” as well as new seasons of “Search Party,” “Sesame Street” and “Doom Patrol.” The “Friends” reunion special is also expected to be filmed once productions are up and running again.
HBO Max releases on Wednesday, May 27.
