‘How I Met Your Mother’ Alternate Ending: New Finale To Be Revealed In ‘HIMYM’ Series DVD

Haaave you heard the news? “How I Met Your Mother” is coming out with an alternative ending that will be revealed when the complete series DVD box is made available this fall. And according to reports, the new version is described as a "happy ending." The exciting announcement was made in a string of tweets on Friday from co-creator of the long-running CBS comedy.

"Here's a bit of news: 16 days ago today we were in the HIMYM edit room, trying to decide between two very different endings," Carter Bays explained. "We only shot one script, but through edit room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series...We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version too."

The ending they decided to air as the series finale upset many fans when Bays and Craig Thomas killed off the Mother, leaving Ted to ultimately end up with Robin in the end. Did you feel bamboozled with the death of Ted’s wife? You weren’t the only one! Even Josh Radnor said the comedy felt like a bit of a “fake-out.”

"I thought the title of the show was always a bit of a fake-out,” he admitted to E! News. “It was more of a hook to hang the thing on. Really it was more about these are the crazy adventures and these are the lessons I had to learn before I met your mother."

Viewers of the show were so dissatisfied with the finale that a fan-made alternative ending began circulating the Web in hopes of giving fans of the nine-season comedy a sense of closure.

Bays and Carter have been made fully aware by the frustration fans are experiencing due to their shocking finale. Perhaps that’s why they decided to give loyal viewers something else to chew on.

"If you didn't like the finale, I guess that happens. We tried something and it didn't connect with you. I hope we're still friends,” Bays quipped.

We hope so, too! But that all depends on what the alternative ending turns out to be like.

The complete series DVD, which resembles Barney's iconic playbook, is said to include other "cool stuff," according to Bays. Now if that's not an incentive to purchase a DVD, we don't know what is!
