Anthony Leon “P.J.” Tucker Jr. of the Milwaukee Bucks has accumulated a massive collection of sneakers over the years, earning him the title “Sneaker King.” But how many pairs does he actually own?
By last year, Tucker had collected nearly 5,000 pairs of sneakers, which he revealed in a video in partnership with eBay. The NBA star spent the last 15 years using various mediums to purchase and acquire sneakers, according to Sports Illustrated.
In 2018, Tucker told Complex that his sneaker purchases totaled nearly $200,000 for the 2017–18 NBA season alone.
He defended his spending, saying that his shoes were “an expression of me, how I’m feeling.” Tucker explained that he would wear different sneakers based on his mood, opting for eye-catching footwear on some days and basic sneakers on others.
In his video with eBay, Tucker said the online platform has allowed him to find and purchase some sneakers that he did not realize he needed. He also noted that one of his favorite footwear was Kobe Bryant’s sneakers. He said the designs were the best shoes for basketball ever made and that the NBA legend understood the functionality of basketball sneakers.
He also honored Bryant last year with the release of a special P.J. Tucker edition of the retro Nike Kobe 5 Protro sneaker.
Tucker can afford to splurge on expensive sneakers. He has an estimated net worth of $13 million from his basketball career and endorsement deals, according to Celebrity Net Worth. In 2019, he agreed to a multi-year, six-figure endorsement deal with Nike.
Earlier this year, Tucker was traded by the Houston Rockets to the Bucks, where he will receive a base salary of $7.97 million for the 2020-21 season, as per Spotrac.
Tucker made his debut in the NBA when he was drafted no. 35 overall by the Toronto Raptors in 2006. He played with the team until 2007. Afterward, he went overseas before returning to play for the Phoenix Suns from 2012 to 2017.
The team later agreed on a three-year contract worth $16.5 million to keep Tucker. In 2017, the Rockets signed Tucker on a four-year contract worth $32 million, ESPN reported.
