How Meghan Markle And Prince Harry’s Relationship ‘Upstaged’ Kate Middleton’s Baby Announcement

When Kensington Palace announced Kate Middleton was pregnant with her third child in 2017, it only took a few days before all eyes were focused on Meghan Markle who spilled details about her relationship with then-boyfriend Prince Harry in Vanity Fair.

While the interview gave the world a glimpse into her romance with a member of the royal, it stole the spotlight from Kate, whose royal baby news was briefly sidelined in lieu of Meghan and Harry’s love story.

In the book “Harry: Life, Loss, And Love” by Katie Nicholl, the author reflected on how Meghan’s decision to discuss her relationship affected the Duchess of Cambridge. “It was extraordinarily candid with Meghan referring to Harry as her ‘boyfriend,’” she wrote.

“She appeared on the cover of the October issue above the strap line, ’She’s just wild about Harry!’ which rather upstaged Kensington Palace’s announcement that William and Kate were expecting their third baby,” Nicholl added.

Prior to the interview, Meghan and Harry did their best to protect details about their relationship. When she was featured on the cover of Vanity Fair people were eager to know more about the private couple.

“Until now Meghan had not talked to the press about her private life and she would certainly have had to get Harry’s blessing, and likely that of his courtiers, before talking so openly about their relationship,” the royal biographer explained.

“It was rather at odds with Harry’s controversial statement asking the media for privacy. Until now, the couple had done their best not to be photographed together, and neither had spoken about their year-long romance,” Nicholl added.

While Meghan and Prince Harry have since married and are expecting a baby together, the Duchess of Sussex now finds herself at the center of feud rumors with the woman she allegedly “upstaged.”

However, neither Kate nor Meghan have commented on feud rumors.
