Prince Charles failed to do so many things for Princess Diana. And the late royal also struggled in their marriage after realizing that the future King couldn’t fulfill the one thing that she needed from him.

Growing up, Princess Diana didn’t necessarily have a happy childhood. Her parents divorced when she was still very young, and she blamed herself for their separation.

There were reports suggesting that Princess Diana’s parents always wanted to have a boy, and they were delighted to have John. But Princess Diana’s older brother died shortly after he was born. Following his death, the Princess of Wales was born.

Unlike John’s birth, Princess Diana’s birth wasn’t welcomed by her family, and this reportedly caused a strain in the way she used to look at herself. And since she didn’t grow up with a father figure in her life, she expected Prince Charles to fulfill this need of hers.

In the book “The Queen and Di: The Untold Story,” royal author Ingrid Seward said some of the things that Prince Charles failed to do for Princess Diana were things that he could have actually done. But being a father figure to his ex-wife wasn’t one of them.

“Diana said that Charles should have taken pride in her achievements, that he should have encouraged her more and congratulated her on the way she was handling herself instead of cold-shouldering her successes, and so he should. But Diana also wanted him to be what she called a ‘father figure’ and that was not a role Charles was capable of performing for a young woman whose needs were so consuming,” she said.

Prince Charles also struggled to be a father figure for Princess Diana because he was quite jealous of his ex-wife. In fact, the heir to the throne hated it whenever the royal fans would rave over Princess Diana instead of him.

The dad of two also accused the late royal of stealing the limelight away from him.
