Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly followed in Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s footsteps with the birth of their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Several years ago, the Duke and Duchess of York made headlines after they announced the name that they have chosen for their eldest child. Princess Beatrice’s moniker was believed to be unusual just like her middle names.

“The Duchess had been successful in generating a minor social revolution which has had a great following throughout the world. The interest in the Duchess of York’s first child is definitely not a newspaper hype but is the result of millions of young people throughout the world identifying with her,” journalist H.B. Brooks-Baker, the publisher of Burke's Peerage, said.

Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s quiet revolution was also visible in their decision to give their daughter just three names instead of the usual five or six. This move was a departure from royal etiquette and protocol since Prince Andrew himself have four names: Andrew Albert Christian Edward.

“The reason the Duke and Duchess of York have chosen the name Beatrice because of their desire to honor the King and Queen of Spain, who are more responsible for making the Duchess feel at home in the royal family than any other couple. The important Beatrice in royal history was a great-grandmother of the King of Spain, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria,” he said.

Several years later, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the name of their son to the world. Instead of giving the baby boy more than three names, he is simply known as Archie Harrison.

There are several speculations on the meaning behind the name Archie. Some believe that it was inspired by Markle’s favorite comic book character, Archie Andrews. Other think that the name has a deeper meaning.

Harrison, on the other hand, is a tribute to Prince Harry because it literally means, “Son of Harry.” Archie Harrison is the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and he was born on May 6.
