How Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Could’ve Avoided Public Backlash Over Renovation Expense
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could’ve avoided the very public backlash they received after they released the cost of their renovations for the Frogmore Cottage.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could’ve avoided the criticisms if they made their records clearer to understand. While speaking with Express, Harrold also said that it’s all about making the details clearer.
“You can understand, if they decided on a renovation that is going to cost a couple of millions for a castle or a palace, people would say it’s extreme but they can understand it – but £2.4 million for a cottage, that doesn’t really make sense. What would have been good in the report is if there were details so we would know exactly who the £2.4 million was for,” he said.
Harrold was merely speaking from his experience when he said that he struggled to understand the accounts so he’s suggesting that Markle and Prince Harry should’ve been more transparent and clearer. He said that he’s sure other people can understand it, but the accounts need to be written in a way that the public would understand exactly where the money is going and what it’s used for.
“Going forward, it’s vital that these kinds of things are made a bit clearer because like anybody in Britain that spends money wants to know where that money is going, is it being used for the right reason and how much it is costing,” he said.
It was recently revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s five-bedroom property renovation cost way more than what was previously estimated. A royal source said that most of the renovations included replacing defective wooden ceiling beams and floor joists.
Frogmore Cottage also needed new and improved electrical wiring, as well as its own electrical substation, and new gas and water mains. Prince Harry and Markle moved into the property after the birth of their son.
