Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, had a wonderful relationship with newsreader Angela Rippon. But their good working relationship came to an end after Rippon was accused of having an affair with Phillips.

During a previous interview with the Scotsman, Rippon accused the dirty-minded reporters of spreading unfounded dirt on her simply because she was good friends with the former royal couple.

“I went through the most dreadful time. It was so sexist - the worst of the tabloids at work. But it was deeply embarrassing and incredibly upsetting. I was there doing a professional job. It was one of the most awful times of my life - really creepy,” she said.

Rippon said that she asked her lawyer to look into every single report that the publications made about it. The newsreader said that the press wouldn’t get away with it today since the laws have already changed. But back in the day, she couldn’t sue the publication for libel.

But despite the rumors, Princess Anne never believed that her then-husband was having an affair with Rippon. The three of them stayed friends up until the royal couple divorced in 1992.

In related news, Phillips previously admitted that Princess Anne was the boss at their home while they were still married. In the documentary “The Real Princess Anne,” the narrator said that there was an unbalance in power between the royal couple.

When the interviewer asked Princess Anne who the boss was at home, she looked at Phillips with a huge smile on her face. Phillips said that it was his wife. The narrator revealed that Phillips knew his place in their marriage.

Princess Anne was known for being stubborn and opinionated, and she was also dubbed as sulky and ill-tempered. As such, everyone was surprised when she chose to marry Phillips. But she defended her decision by saying that she would marry anyone she pleases regardless of what his job is.
