How Princess Diana’s Death Is Affecting Prince Harry After Royal Baby’s Birth
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are still over the moon following the birth of their baby boy Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Despite the exciting time in his life, the Duke of Sussex can’t help but miss his late mother, Princess Diana.
During a trip to The Netherlands on Thursday, to launch the official countdown to the Invictus Games, the 34-year-old spoke to fellow veteran Dennis van der Stroon, 31, about Princess Diana.
People reported the men were able to bond over similar experiences, like losing a mother. The veteran revealed his mother died from chronic lung disease in 2014. “I told Harry about my mother and we talked about our shared experience of missing a mom,” van der Stroon said.
“He said missing a mother is like missing some kind of security, how you need that as a son and it falls away when you lose your mother.”
Over the years, Prince Harry revealed he was able to realize he wasn’t the only person dealing with the pain of losing a parent.
“He said he meets a lot of people in his work who have lost a mother, father, sister, brother or relatives and when he hears their story, as he heard my story, he said he doesn’t feel so alone,” van der Stroon shared.
Along with missing their moms, the men also spoke about how life changes when you become a parent. “We talked about how my wife, Mireille, is 20 weeks pregnant with our first child, a girl, and he told me how special it was that his son has just been born,” the veteran explained.
The former soldier told Harry he struggled with his mental health for some time but was able to make a change for the better after learning about his wife’s pregnancy.
“Above all, he said he was just amazed by the miracles in the world, and how his child has made a lot of people happy. He also told me he’s really happy that his son is so far very quiet. But he also told me not to make too many plans and that there’s no way you can plan for when the baby arrives.”
Although Prince Harry traveled to The Netherlands, the visit was only a day trip. The excited father is expected to return home to the UK to be with his wife, Meghan and their newborn Archie.
