Souma has won the civil war in the Kingdom of Elfrieden and even the battle against the Principality of Amidonia in "How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom" Episode 17.

The official synopsis of Episode 17 reveals that Souma is able to win because of the efforts of Georg. However, Souma will find out the truth about him and will punish him in the upcoming episode.

In Episode 16, titled "Tyranny is More than Tigers," Souma announced that the forces of the Kingdom of Elfrieden will return Van to the Principality of Amidonia and head back to their country.

The condition of the return was that Amidonia will have to pay Elfrieden war reparations. Julius was unhappy with how Jeanne handled the negotiations with Souma.

He was upset because paying reparations will make them look like a defeated country. Jeanne, who did not mince her words, told Julius it was unavoidable because they did lose their capital in the battle.

Julius continued to argue that only one of their cities was conquered and they did not lose any battle.

"Van is returned to Julius as a result of the mediation of the Grand Chaos Empire, in exchange for a great deal of reparation costs. Souma returns to the Kingdom of Elfrieden, where many other problems yet remain," read the official synopsis of Episode 16, according to Amazon Prime.
