How To Use A PS4 Controller With Your iPhone
Apple’s latest OS versions for its devices, namely the iPhone, iPad, Mac, MacBook and Apple TV includes support for Sony’s DualShock4 controller, allowing users to play their games using their favorite video game console controller.
In a PlayStation Blog, Sony said the DualShock4 controller can be used for devices running on the latest Apple OS versions: iOS 13, iPadOS 13 and tvOS 13. The functionality will also be included in macOS Catalina when it arrives this month. Those who use Macs or MacBooks running on macOS High Sierra or macOS Mojave can still use the DualShock4 controller using a USB cable or DualShock4 wireless adaptor.
Using the DualShock4 controller to play on any Apple device, including the iPhone, requires the use of the PS4 Remote Play app. This app allows PlayStation players and fans to stream games to their devices. It also allows users to operate a PS4 console by connecting it wirelessly to an Apple device.
Simply put, players will be able to stream compatible PS4 games to their iPhones, iPads and MacBooks using the PS4 Remote Play app. Players will be able to play hit PS4 games anywhere inside the home using their iPhone as a display and the DualShock4 controller as the input device.
PS4 players will also be able to play hundreds of games, including those featured in Apple Arcade, as long as those games have MFi controller support.
Here’s how to connect the DualShock4 controller to an iPhone:
- Download and install the PS4 Remote Play app from the App Store here. (Keep in mind that remote playing on the iPhone will require the PS4 Remote Play app to connect to a high-speed internet connection via Wi-Fi, a PS4 system with software version 6.5 or higher, an iPhone 7 (or newer) with iOS 12.1 or higher installed.)
- Ready the DualShock4 controller for pairing. Make sure the light bar on the controller is turned off and the USB cable is disconnected. Press and hold the Share button, then press and hold the PS button until the light bar flashes.
- Pair the iPhone to the controller. Turn Bluetooth on, then select the DualShock4 controller from the list of devices displayed. The light bar on the controller will turn into a solid color once pairing is complete.
