HP Topaz tablet leaked specs targets Apple iPad

Among two tablets announced by HP, one of the tablet named “Topaz’s” specifications were spotted in a leaked photo shot. The other tablet is named Opal.

The tablet, which is expected to feature webOS, is targeted at Apple iPad in terms hardware and software. The prototype picture mentions a “Slate (Keyboardless “tablet”).

The leaked prototype states that the tablet will feature a dual core Qualcomm MSM8660 processor with 1.2 GHz processor as against Apple iPad’s1 GHz Apple A4 processor.

Topaz uses integrated Adreno 220 GPU as graphics whereas Apple iPad uses PowerVR SGX 535 GPU as its graphics. HP’s tablet has a 9.7-inch XGA 1024 x 768 display which is similar to Apple iPad specification.

Apple iPad has a dimension of 243 mmx190 mmx13 mm but HP Topaz features 240m x190mm x13.7mm.

The estimated weight of Topaz is 700g (1.5lb) but Apple iPad weighs around 680-730g (1.5-1.6lb).

iPad has a 256 MB DRAM memory which is way lesser than Topaz’s 512MB DDR2 RAM memory.

In terms of storage Topaz is expected to feature 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB eMMC storage whereas Apple iPad comes with 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB models. Topaz also has a front-facing camera of 1.3 mega-pixel for video chat which Apple iPad lacks.

When it comes to connectivity Topaz features dual-band 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR while Apple iPad has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. Also other radios include optional WWAN for HSDPA with support for quad-band EDGE, LTE and most probably CDMA and Apple iPad has HSDPA and GSM / EDGE.

Sensors in Topaz include accelerometer, eCompass, gyro, light sensor, microphone whereas Apple iPad has magnetometer, 3-axis accelerometer, proximity and ambient light sensor and microphone.

Topaz has two integrated speakers with beats audio and 3.5mm audio jack similar to Apple iPad.

The battery that will come with Topaz is 24WHr for 8hrs, using two 3150mAh cells battery whereas iPad internal rechargeable non-removable 25 W•h (90 kJ) lithium-polymer battery provides close to 10 hours of video playback.

But the key difference between these two tablets will be flash.

HP’s webOS is expected to support Touchstone v2 technology along with Snapfish for photos, melodeon music integration, HP Cloud Drive and HP Cloud Canvas.

Also other rumors about HP’s tablet include that they are planning to launch three more tablets named Touchslate Touchcanvas and Duopad.
