HTC has announced that it will be announcing a new “U” Android smartphone on Aug. 30. Although the phone maker didn’t provide any additional information, it is believed that the company will announce the rumored HTC U12 Life on that very same date.

HTC made the announcement on its Twitter page. The company teased that there will be “Something new for U,” and that “beauty and power” will meet on Aug. 30. It’s now being speculated that the company will officially unveil the HTC U12 Life on that day. The U12 Life, which is also codenamed as “HTC Imagine Life,” is expected to be the successor to last year’s HTC U11 Life and it’s also going to be the more affordable version of the HTC U12 Plus, which was released earlier this year.

With HTC already having a flagship Android smartphone for 2018, it’s expected that the HTC U12 Life will be a mid-range device. Leaked promotional documents from July revealed that the U12 Life will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor and have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The device will also have a 6-inch 2,160 x 1,080 display, dual cameras on its back and a 3,600 mAh battery.

Android Authority believes that the HTC U12 Life will arrive will a sub-$300 price tag based on the handset’s specs. However, HTC could also possibly go for a higher price, perhaps somewhere between $300 and $400.

Last year’s HTC U11 Life was released in December, but the U12 Life may become available to customers a lot sooner than that considering HTC is planning an announcement as early as August. Users who are expecting the device to run Android 9.0 Pie are out of luck since the device is said to come with Android 8.0 Oreo.
