Huawei did not only launch the new Mate 20 series of smartphones, but it also announced a new smartwatch. Called the Huawei Watch GT, the new wearable is powered by Huawei’s LightOS operating system and is said to come with extended battery life.

The Huawei Watch GT comes with a 1.39-inch circular AMOLED display. The overall design of the wearable makes it look a lot like a classic wristwatch, thanks to its 316L stainless steel casing. The watch also has two crowns on its side that can be used for navigation, while a ceramic bezel surrounds the wearable’s display. On the back, the Watch GT comes with a 4-dot heart rate monitor. The wearable also features leather and nylon straps that are attached to the casing using a quick-release mechanism. This makes it possible for users to use third-party straps, if they want to.

Huawei has decided to ditch Google’s Wear OS operating system in favor of its own LightOS, which the company is already using on its other fitness trackers. The Huawei Watch GT comes with standard smartwatch features, such as delivering notifications and keeping track of physical activities.

Huawei claims that the Watch GT has a battery life of up to 2 weeks. The smartwatch can also last up to 30 days if only the low-powered features are used and with the GPS and heart-rate monitoring features turned off, according to Android Central. With heavy usage, which includes GPS tracking, heart-rate monitoring and with the screen always on, the Watch GT can last up to 22 hours on a single full charge.

Huawei was able to cram in as much battery life as it could on the Watch GT thanks to LightOS, which is said to be very power-efficient. Huawei is also using a dual-chip architecture, but the company didn’t name what chip is powering its latest smartwatch. One chip is responsible for low-power tasks, while the other is used for more demanding processes.

Huawei is once again using its AI technologies to bring more functionalities to the Watch GT. The wearable’s AI is able to understand where and how the watch is being worn on the user’s wrist. This allows the AI to deliver more accurate heart rate readings. The device is able to track sleep, runs, cycling, swimming and even hiking, according to The Verge.

Huawei hasn’t given an exact release date, nor has it provided information on where it will be available. However, the company did reveal that the Watch GT Classic will cost €249, while the Watch GT Sport will cost €199.
